HIKING CHECKLIST

Tips on good hiking:

1. A comfortable hiker is a happy hiker.

2. Don’t take anything that is not necessary.

3. Be prepared for the conditions you are hiking in.(weather, terrain, type of trail, etc.)

4. It is better to wear layers of clothes than 1 heavy jacket.

5. Hiking boots provide support to your foot. Avoid wearing flat soled shoes.

6. Keep your feet dry to avoid blisters.

7. Carry enough, but not too much water. 1 or 2 quart canteens work well on most hikes.

8. Keep your gear in your pack. Swinging equipment can break and waste energy.

9. Know emergency procedures.

10. Know where you are going!

Note: Having the proper equipment is essential to a good hike. Most equipment needed can be obtained from around the house or purchased at local dept. stores. Avoid "High end" camping supply stores.
